The film is sweet and light, at least until the third act, when things get a little serious, and even a little sad (at least for very young viewers). The two become inseparable, which causes serious problems for both worlds.

There, she discovers she has a twin sister, Periwinkle. The film finds Tinkerbell wandering into the Winter Woods, which is forbidden for the inhabitants of the spring-like Pixie Hollow. Secret of the Wings takes the Tinkerbell character in a new direction, giving her a bit of a backstory while creating a new universe of characters to interact with. The Disney Fairies franchise, however, has managed to be both original and entertaining, while keeping the production quality high. Sporting outstanding CGI animation and characters that little girls will love, Secret of the Wings is an impressive effort and a worthy addition to the Disney animation legacy.ĭisney animation over the last decade has been hit and miss, and the many straight-to-video releases have often failed to live up to their predecessors. If you have a little girl who’s into the Disney fairies, then go ahead and buy it if not, then you’re fine.įollow Bell Secret of the Wings is available October 23, 2012. It would get “Rent it” status, but then again…don’t rent it. So all the extras in total are a short, a preview of a short and two music videos. The other two features are two music videos of which I personally was not a fan. It was a bit dissapointing, but I guess whet your palette for what to expect in the next Tinker Bell film. The other short is is preview of what I assume is an upcoming short Fright Light. The short was fun, surprisingly well animated and a welcome addition to the features. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that this was a full, 22-minute short! Pixie Hollow Games tells the story of the fairies version of the Olmpics and focuses on Rosetta and the rest of the garden fairies, who have pitifully come in last place every year. I halway expected “Pixie Hollow Games” to just be some lame game section that most kiddie DVDs contain. The features on the Flitterific Fairies Double Pack Blu-Ray were a bit weak. As it is, it was still an enjoyable movie. In it’s favor, the animation, music, and characters were all consistent and it didn’t drag on. I will also say that if they had wanted to, they only would have needed to improve on a few things and it could have been good enough for any audience on any screen. There were even a few moments where I said to myself “Wow, I like this movie!” However, these moments wore off as the end got predictably sappy and tied everything up in a little bow…and that is why it went straight to DVD. After learning a lot about the franchise and even the title character- Tinker Bell-from director Peggy Holmes on our trip to Destination D ( Episode 18), I was intrigued with what was going to be coming out.Īdventurous Tinker Bell sneaks into the forbidden Winter Woods in order to discover the secret of her glowing, sparking wings. I thought it would be good to get a balanced opinion of the show and win some “Super Cool Aunt” points while I was at it. I was able to watch this film in theatres with my 6-year-old niece. Along the way she learns more of her own origins and meets new friends that will be around for a long time. The Disney Fairies saga continues in Tinker Bell Secret of the Wings as Tinker Bell is introduced to the forbidden Winter Woods and a chance to uncover a mystery about her sparkling wings.
